An intensive 200 hour Yoga Alliance Certified immersion teacher training designed to help you take the art of yoga into your daily life and share it with others. Spread over 9 weekends as 4 integrated modules intended to give you a deep, immersive experience into the lifestyle of Yoga and provide in-depth understanding of yoga asanas, history, philosophy and anatomy as well as the skills to teach with confidence. Each week includes Friday evenings as well as Saturday and Sunday daytime classes.

Immersion Module 2: Space Within: Anatomy, Physiology and Subtle Energy • March 1-3, 8-10

  • Kriya: Yogic cleansing techniques for health and longevity

  • Yoga Anatomy: Comprehensive understanding of the body and movement, including bones, joints, muscles, nerves and connective tissue, with a focus on alignment, safety and space.

  • Physiology: Discussions on nutrition and yoga as they relate to the cardiovascular, lymphatic, digestive, immune and endocrine systems.

  • Subtle Energy Body and Nada Yoga: Chakras, Nadis (the sacred sound current) and energy fields.

  • Quantum Physics and its relationship to perception, mind and matter

Immersion Module 1: The Quest for Truth: Immersion into the Philosophy and Lifestyle of Yoga • February 15-17, 22-24

Essential Practices:

  • Ontology: Contemplating the nature of being and expanding our “yoga practice” into ‘living yoga’, drawing wisdom from yoga philosophy, world religions and the scientific enlightenment.

Essential Topics:

  • Yogas: Hatha, Raja, Bhakti, Jnana, Karma pranayama, mantra, meditation kriya

  • Spiritual traditions: Hinduism, Taoism, Buddhism, Zen, Tantra, Stoicism.

  • Christian mysticism, the New Age Movement

  • Modern Science: Physics, Mathematics, Quantum Mechanics, Psychology, Neuroscience

Immersion Module 3: The Posture Clinics: A Deep Dive Into the Practice • April 5-7, 12-14

Teaching Module 4: Being Bright: Taking the seat of a teacher and sharing your light • April 26-28, May 3-5 May 10-12

  • Teaching skills: Effective language, demonstrating, holding space, finding your voice, sharing your energy, hands on adjustments, teaching to all learning types.

  • Teaching Methodology: Designing, evolving and theming classes.

  • Yoga as Business: including Social media, web presence, marketing, insurance, certifications etc.

Steve merkley

Steve started practicing yoga in 2000, and has been teaching since 2001. He has studied with John Friend, Baron Baptiste, Ana Forrest, Bikram Choudhury, Paul Grilley and many other amazing teachers from all over the world. Steve has years of study and certification from several yoga schools, including the Bikram Yoga College of India, the Baptiste Institute, and the Anusara School of Hatha Yoga.

Steve has travelled the world teaching yoga, including 3 years in Hong Kong, 1 year in Australia, and 6 years as a studio owner/director in Vancouver, Canada. Nearly 2 decades of study in various practices of healing and schools of philosophy, have provided Steve with a deep understanding of the human condition. With his background as a Physical Therapist, and as a multi-sport athlete, he has gained extensive knowledge of the human body.

Mikes initial movement into teaching was through the Brazilian martial art of Capoeira in 1999 at the request of his teacher who also introduced him to yoga.  Yoga became an integral part of his life and he began teaching classes integrating elements from martial arts, meditation, energy work, sound and hatha yoga.  In 2012 he created and began running his 200 hour Certified Yoga Teacher Training, the Fire of Transformation and has graduated over 80 participants.  Those beings that have influenced his teachings most significantly are Mestre Gordo, Chris Chavez, Nico Luce, Dharm Kaur Khalsa, SN Goenka and Shine Edgar.
Mike facilitates workshops and teacher trainings throughout Canada as well as his boutique home studio in Vancouver called The Shine Shack.  His personal experience with yoga, meditation & sound has been a journey of infinite potential to develop the body, mind and spirit and he is passionate about sharing the teachings.
